The Portugal Experience…..on the Ground……

Our last post considered Portugal on a river cruise- this post will consider options for travelling “on the ground”- exploring Portugal either by group travel or independently…..and of course, there are lots more options- these are a minimal few for your Portugal experience!

Medieval castles, cobblestone villages, captivating cities and golden-sand beaches: the Portugal experience can mean many things. History, great food and wine, idyllic scenery and blazing nightlife are just the beginning…

Culture, History, Scenery Festivals, and Food! Portugal has it all.

Celts, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Christians all left their mark on the Iberian nation. Exploring Portugal means coming face to face with the great mysteries of the past. Outside the cities, Portugal’s beauty unfolds in all its startling variety- hill-top castles, dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches, and granite peaks all combined with olive groves, small villages, and vineyards. And the food! For a foodie adventure, Portugal offers freshly baked bread, olives, cheese, red wine or crisp vinho verde, chargrilled fish, cataplana (seafood stew), smoked meats – the Portuguese have perfected the art of cooking (and eating) simple, delicious meals. Festivals liven your visit, and offer a glimpse into the history, music and culture of Portugal.

Many people travel to Portugal as a place to spend their winters away from the cold of their home countries.  But Portugal is so much more. 3* hotels and guesthouses at $75-$100 per night are not hard to find in certain areas of the country- 4* hotels generally cost around $140 per night.  Public transportation in terms of trains and buses are readily available, and for the most part easy to book. Car rental is another option……
