Alternatives to Resort Vacations

Exploring Off the Beaten Path in Ecuador

Exploring Off the Beaten Path in Ecuador

Winter- that dreaded Canadian winter……and they say that this winter could be colder than normal……so what do we hardy Canadians do?  Well some of us embrace it, and some of us don’t.  For those that don’t, many look to head to the Caribbean, Florida or Mexico.

But there are alternatives to resort vacations- and that is exploring some of the countries in both Central and South America…..for the next few posts, I am going to explore those alternatives to resort vacations.

Ecuador

How about heading to Ecuador?  Yes- there are the wonderful Galapagos Islands- but if you want to head off the beaten path, check out this trip from Trafalgar- one of their Hidden Journey trips- Secrets of Ecuador . This trip, although only offered a couple of times a year, allows you to explore Ecuador’s colours and contrasts, Otavalos outdoor market, Cotopaxi National Park, Devil’s Nose Train and UNESCO World Heritage sites like Cuenca. You’ll enjoy Insider moments like3,000 roses filling the Jarrin family’s hacienda, as you join them for local treats like ‘llapingachos’, cheesy potato cakes, after exploring their rose plantation. It’s staying at a restored 17th century hacienda once owned by King Phillip III of Spain.

Priced from $2995 plus your flights there and back, this is a fabulous deal.  If you have time, combine it with either a Galapagos Island trip or an Amazonian lodge stay.

Sandwiched between Peru and Columbia, Ecuador can sometimes be an after thought on the South America travel agenda. This 9 day trip will allow you to explore off the beaten track in comfort and style……if you are interested, contact me for more information.

So Scotland is on your bucket list…….perhaps you are one of the many Canadians whoseancestors were from Scotland, or you are a fan of Outlander, or one of the many other book series such as Harry Potter, John Rebus, or Dan Brown.  What is the best way to explore this country you have read so much about?

The best way is by a self drive tour, but as I have said in some of my Facebook posts, this is not for the faint of heart.  So here are some options with some itineraries  for those travellers who wish to see Scotland……..

Travel Options to Explore Scotland

Obviously the best way to explore Scotland if not by car is by a small group tour (or even a chauffer driven tour) if you cannot drive yourself.  There are a number of small group tours offered exploring parts of the country- i.e. the islands, the north of Scotland, the castles of Scotland, or even the Outlander experience…….all range in prices from $279 CAD for a 2 day tour to explore Loch Ness and the Inverness area to $1809 CAD for an 8 day Whisky Experience.

Large Group tour options also are plentiful……consider the 7 day trip offered by Trafalgar called Best of Scotland- priced from just $2138……very reasonable…..and everything is looked after……Royal Scottish Tours offers an 8 day option which is somewhat similar- priced from $2289.

And I have not even mentioned public transportation……although it is harder to reach certain remote areas, with careful planning and using a mixture of small group tours and public transportation, I think one could almost see everything one wanted to see!  (And after all, that is what we travel consultants are for!)

All that to say, now is the time to live those travel dreams, sally forth and go explore……Scotland is waiting for you!  Contact me today to make those travel dreams come true…….
